Hand rigidity: how to make a pulley system (to regain finger flexion)

When significant finger rigidity is present, such that the patient is unable to grasp an object, a pulley system may be used to regain finger flexion. The system is attached on a hand-wrist orthosis, and pulls the MCP and IF joints into flexion. The patient itself can use this system throughout the day, by applying a gentle force into flexion for prolonged time (5 to 20 minutes). Low stretch for prolonged time is pivotal to regain finger mobility.
