Original title: Pathways mediating functional recovery
Why you must read this article:
Baker et al, illustrates the different contributions of controlateral and ipsilateral corticospinal tract, as well as the role of medullar and spinal interneurons, such as the reticulospinal tract. Understanding the composition of all descending pathways is fundamental to interpret clinical findings in neurorehabilitation, and perhaps even to select appropriate interventions based on which pathways have been likely compromised by a brain lesion, and which others are likely spared.
Highlights:
Chapter 6, "Different types of hand function", is in my opinion pure gold to connect the dots of anatomy, brain lesion, clinical symptoms, recovery and potential for therapeutic interventions.
